To use the scientific method, first identify a question or a puzzle. Second, make an educated guess (hypothesis) that might answer the question. Third, predict consequences of the hypothesis (ideally, both those that have been observed and those yet to be observed). Fourth, perform experiments or make observations to test the predictions. At the end, find the simplest general rule that connects the hypothesis, predicted effects, and experimental findings/observations.
