Jean-Pierre Léaud
Jean-Pierre Léaud would appear as his character Antoine Doinel in four other films directed by Francois Truffaut. In addition, Léaud would make several uncredited appearances in films directed by the other icon of the French New Wave, Jean-Luc Godard, including Weekend and Alphaville. The young actor also shows up in the controversial Last Tango in Paris and was still acting as of 2017.
Guy Decomble
As the teacher whose torment of Antoine is partly responsible for his running away, Guy Decomble’s appearance in The 400 Blows makes a big impression in the film. He appeared in countless French films throughout his career, and died in 1964, just 5 years after the release of The 400 Blows.
Albert Rémy
The actor playing another of Antoine’s tormenters—his stepfather—would also be cast in Truffault’s groundbreaking film Shoot the Piano Player. Other films include Les Enfants du Paradis, The Train, and Is Paris Burning?
Claire Maurier
In addition to appearing in The 400 Blows as Antoine's mother, Claire Maurier had roles in two other French films that became international sensations: La Cage Aux Folles and Amelie.
Patrick Auffay
Auffay appeared in only three films in his career—all directed by Truffaut, and all centered around Antoine Doinel. In each he played René, Antoine’s close friend.
