    Students will be able to understand the poems more deeply by learning more about the people and places to which Neruda refers

    Structure:

    This set of poems refers to a significant number of proper names that students might or might not recognize: Nixon, Paul Éluard, Rubén Darío, Rimbaud, Góngora, Victor Hugo, the Queen of Sheba, Baudelaire, and Guevara.

    Ask each student to pick a name from the list and to move into a group with others who picked the same name. They should spend about 15...
