    After her daughter, Pique, leaves Moragg she is overwhelmed with loneliness as a result of her apparent lack of friends. She thus revisits her life, an instance from which we learn that she has raised her daughter alone. In this way, the assertion that she is an epitome of loneliness is quite true considering the above illustrations.

    The perilous and dangerous relationship between men and women is highlighted in Margaret Laurence’s, The Diviners.

    While reading through the novel, the reader might have expected that the relationship between Gunn and Torrerre would last due to the shared elements between their identities, the writer causes them to break up due to difficulties in their relationship. In this sense, the precarious and rather perilous relationship between men and women is examined. Additionally, the effect of unfortunate social systems is also brought out.

Also, Morag remembers the time when she had undergone an identity crisis similar to her daughter’s. This way, the quest to understand one’s identity is explored majorly in this work.
