The Ecological Rift: Capitalism's War on the Earth Background

The Ecological Rift: Capitalism's War on the Earth is a critical analysis of the environmental issues and problems that plague us in the modern day an age by environmental sociologists John Bellamy Foster, Richard York, and Brett Clark. It was first published in 2010 by the NYU Press.

In the book, they explore the impacts and environmental degradation that capitalism has caused and examine how human greed and hedonistic pursuits have caused the titular rift between the environment and mankind. In the book, they also critique common arguments put forth by conventional economists and provide their own take on the actions that need to be taken to ensure a sustainable future for both Man and the environment.

The book was awarded the Gerald L. Young Book Award by the Society for Human Ecology in 2010. It was also well received by critics and environmentalists with Herman E. Daly, Professor Emeritus of the School of Public Policy, University of Maryland, praising it as "a scholarly, well-referenced, and important contribution".
