The Essence of Christianity Characters

The Essence of Christianity Character List

Ludwig Feuerbach

Ludwig Feuerbach was a German philosopher born in 1804. This text includes many of his thoughts about religion and Christianity, constructed into comprehensive arguments. He might not be a character within the text, but The Essence of Christianity is heavily informed by the philosopher's personal thoughts about religion, and what he experienced in his life.

God

In this text, Feuerbach constructs God as if he were a character. This is partly a result of his argument that God is a psychological projection of human needs such as love, morality, and safety. Feuerbach analyses different traits that are often assigned to the Christian God, concluding that these traits do not exist in a diving being.

Ultimately, Feuerbach argues that virtuous traits found in humans are projected onto God, which then distances people from their own goodness. This is the crux of Feuerbach's argument, which is ultimately based on the idea that religion hinders society and humanity.
