The Island

Winkfield describes the deserted island using beautiful imagery, emphasizing the warm climate and weather. Critics have seen this text as similar to Robinson Crusoe, which has similar descriptions of an unfamiliar island.

Native American imagery

Imagery is used to emphasize Unca's Native American heritage. For example, her bow and arrow emphasize her attempt to connect with her culture and history.

The Sun God

Unca dresses up as a Sun God in a clever attempt to be understood and respected on the island. This imagery is used to make Unca seem other-worldly, ethereal, and powerful.
