Naked Grin (metaphor)
"It was only when she saw his naked grin that she gave a little yelp of surprise."
When Myop initially encounters the dead man, she doesn't realize what she is seeing—until she notices his rotting skull. The narrator, in the sentence quoted above, compares the empty expression of that skull with a "naked grin."
