Several times throughout this story, Wilde highlights the differences between these two types of people: the Town Councillors value practicality, noting that the Happy Prince is not very useful; a little boy who is “crying for the moon” has a mother described as “sensible”; the sensible Mathematical Master does “not approve of children dreaming”; even the Swallow, in love with a Reed, is mocked by his fellow Swallows for being ridiculous.
