Letters are a symbol of the past. The novel uses letters from the past to tell the story of scholars who have searched for Dracula. These letters lead the reader on a search through the decades. The letters not only discuss the scholars’ journey, but also the historical contexts of the time in which they are writing.
Maps
Maps are a symbol of travel. The scholars travel throughout the world on their search for Dracula. The maps lead them on a journey through many countries and different cultures. The reader travels with the characters and is swept up in the architecture, politics and tensions of the countries at different eras.
Dracula
Dracula is a symbol of evil. He was a sadistic prince when alive who tortured not only his enemies, but his people and has not changed in death. He seeks to cause chaos in the world. The scholars attempt to find him to stop his rampage through history.
