What milestone has just passed in the boys' academic lives? What are the young men supposed to be doing during their last year of schooling before university?
At the beginning of the play, the young men have just passed their A-levels -- the advanced exams required to qualify for admission to most British universities. Most of the boys have achieved very good scores on their exams. Their final year of high school is spent preparing for university admissions interviews and exams, which require students to have even more advanced knowledge and analytical skills.
