The Hunger Games in Relation to Real-World Politics Anonymous College

Typically, books have more similarities to real life than most people realize. One example is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins; here, Collins writes of a dystopia where a tyrannical government controls the districts and subsequently the people through the fear created by the annual hunger games, where each district sends two tribute to fight until one victor remains. When reading this book a reader might struggle to unearth the connections to historical events referenced by Collins, however with a deeper analysis one can see that many aspects of life in Panem are similar to events that have happened in real life. Suzanne Collins draws similarities to real life examples in order to show her audience that people should rise together to overthrow oppressive governments.

History is often used as a lesson in hopes we do not repeat our mistakes, but also as a guiding light to those hope to replicate one’s success. Revolutionaries often rely on previous successful revolutions when planning to overthrow a tyrannical government which allows those in charge to see what worked in previous attempts as well as what did not work as well.
