What are Noni and Lola's stances on the insurgency? What do Lola's arguments demonstrate about her?
Noni is more sympathetic to the insurgency than her sister. The insurgency makes Lola feel vulnerable, she thinks the Nepalis will come after wealthy people such as her and her sister, which puts her on defense. Noni points to history, saying that Nepalis were first thrown out of Assam, then Meghalaya, and now the Bhutanese King seems to be "growling" against them as well. She argues with Lola that it makes sense for Nepalis to want to secure their rights in India. At the very least, she questions, couldn't Nepali be taught in schools?
