If the narrator is consoled, why is he so worried about knowing if the prince comes back?
This question requires students to go beyond the text of the book. The seeming contradiction is instead a philosophical truth. While people often say time heals all wounds, recovery is not a straight line. The narrator may, for the most part, feel okay about the little prince leaving; that does not mean he is not ever sad about it.
