What do you think these are "Preludes" to?
Some students will probably observe that the main figure in the poem—the "you"—seems always to be waiting for something that doesn't come, some change or sense of comfort. Others might believe that the first three parts are "Preludes" to the fourth—that the appearance of a "him" and an "I" in the last stanza indicate a shift of perspective, that the person who was waiting in the first three sections is now being observed as a part of the world, or a part of the religious experience.
