The Marriage of Figaro Lesson Plan

The Marriage of Figaro is the second in a trilogy of plays by Beaumarchais which retain the same core characters. First is The Barber of Seville, in which Figaro helps the Count steal Rosina away from Doctor Bartholo. In The Marriage of Figaro, the second play in the set, Figaro and the Count are pitted against each other and Bartholo seeks revenge. In The Guilty Mother, the third and last play in the set, the Countess has an illegitimate child with Hannibal, the Count's page. The first two plays in the trilogy yielded operas which have earned a place in the western music canon.
