Moor’s Beloved

Analysis Moor recalls the first horrible days of Vasco Miranda’s mad citadel in the mountain village. He ran away to escape death but the memories of those horrible days still hang over his head today. The quote is said by Moor’s beloved to show her amazement of Moor’s strange determination and character. When Moor fled the dark days, he left a message nailed to the door. However, his beloved is now surprised that despite having many theses, Moor has no place to nail his theses for future reference.

Narrator’s mother

The narrator’s mother makes her sentiments on the interests of the people who first discovered India including Vasco da Gama in the early centuries. The interest of da Gama was to fetch pepper from India and other valuable items for his benefit. The tall ships of da Gama came from Lisbon to the Indian coastline to fetch valuable items for trade. According to the narrator’s mother, it is clear that the French and Englishmen came to India to discover hot stuff for their selfish interests but not for the good of the local people.

Moor’s mother thinks that there is nothing special as peace of mind at all times. She believes that it is better to give than receive and that is what she did most of her life. However, she later realized that nobody is appreciating her good deeds because it comes a time when her children are shown no mercy by those who believe that the dynasty must fall. Therefore, she believes that there is no special privilege that that should be extended to flesh and blood relations since it makes no difference.
