The Mysterious Rider Quotes

Quotes

Love was the food of life, and hope was its spirituality, and beauty was its reward to the seeing eye

Narrator

The true idea of love comes to Columbine when she is thinking of her real father Bent Wade, a person who protected her, who did everything for her, he understood her soul as anyone else and always knew what she was feeling. She misses him so much, but her memory will keep him alive in her thoughts, so he will live till she lives. Life is nothing without life, it is essential as food for us, because it nurses our soul and gives us and our deeds meaningfulness. The one, who understands that is happy, because it means that one lives in harmony with his soul and dignity, so Columbine did, as her father taught her.

For I've had a broken heart an' ruined life, an' yet I've lived on an' on, findin' happiness I never dreamed would come, fightin' or workin'. An' how I found the world beautiful, an' how I love the flowers an' hills an' wild things so well—that, just that would be enough to live for!... An' think, lass, of what a wonderful happiness will come to me in showin' all this to you. That'll be the crownin' glory. An' if it's that much to me, then you be sure there's nothin' on earth I won't do for you

Bent Wade

Everybody has a reason to live and if you don’t have then find one. Bent wade is an optimist – his life was a hell of a challenge but despite this he never stopped loving his life, because he believed that one day he will be happy and he will find a sense of his life. And so he did. And he wants to share his happiness with other and help them to find it. There is a beauty in every day, a mystery of life and universe is on every step but people just don’t notice, we are always too busy with life that we forgot what the life itself if. So, the great moralist Wade says that we should appreciate life so we will.

“Love can work marvels in any man,” went on Wade. “But love can't change the fiber of a man's heart. A man is born so an' so. He loves an' hates an' feels accordin' to the nature. It'd be accordin' to nature for Jack Belllounds to stay reformed if his love for Collie lasted. An' that's the point. It can't last. Not in a man of his stripe

Bent Wade

People don’t change; they just act according to the situation. That is how Wade looks at life. A little bit pragmatic, but still there is something in it. If a man has a darkness in his soul like Jack had, then nothing would change him, even love to Columbine, because his love was as dark as his nature, so it couldn’t bring happiness not him nor the object of his love. He was a liar so he left a liar it was just a question of time. So, according to this quote, it may be too naïve to believe that a person has changed because the human nature born and dies with a human.

Wils, hate is a poison in the blood. It's worse for him who feels it than for him against whom it rages

Bent Wade

The one can't be happy if the one hates something or someone. Hate spoils our life, it is a weight on our soul that don’t let us to move forward. It is much easier to live without it, but people are so stupid that they would better live with hate than with love. Hatred became an essential part of human nature, we can’t live without it, but if we hate someone it doesn’t change anything, the world stays as it was. But if we love someone, the world becomes brighter and happier. This is the main message of Wades’ speech to Wilson – he would rather hurt himself if he hated Jack and it made no sense. So, don’t damage yourself, but just love and be happy.

No boy can answer to all his wild impulses without ruinin' himself. It's not natural. There are other people—people who have wills an' desires, same as you have. You've got to live with people

Bent Wade

Bent Wade would like to be friends with Jack Bellounds, he hopes that maybe this fellow is not so bad and he may change. But Jack makes it clear for him that he will never change – he will stay a dirty liar, a violent and merciless thief. Jack rejects to be friends with Wade. There is nothing left to Wade but tell Buster Jack what he thinks about him. But, unfortunately, Jack didn’t get his message. His wishes and desires were always more important than other people and he couldn’t understand how there can be something else except him. He was just selfish, spoiled boy. There are a lot of people such as Jack, who don’t know how to live with other people because they were never taught it.
