The Nomad: The Diaries of Isabelle Eberhardt Background

The Nomad: The Diaries of Isabelle Eberhardt Background

Starting in the year 1900 near the Mediterranean Sea region, Isabelle Eberhardt writes her journal chronicling her epic adventures. A completely rebellious spirit, Eberhardt was an embodiment of women's rights - she did everything that a woman could possibly do, and ignored men that told her she couldn't and shouldn't do it. The Nomad is a collection of diary entries following her story and what she did as a traveller. Reviews on Amazon as of late 2018 rate the book as 3.3 out of 5 stars, with reviewers commenting on how dry her writing can be (likely because of the time at which it was written).

Born in 1877, Isabelle Eberhardt was a Swiss traveller that passed away by drowning in a desert in 1904. As a young child, Eberhardt, with the help of her father, published stories under a male name. As she got older, she began to wear the clothes of a man, and her independent spirit was set free.
