    When did you first realize that Vera was telling a tale? How/Why?

    In the beginning, readers have no reason to not believe the great tragedy Vera is relaying to Nuttel. As she claims the tragedy happened three years ago, which was just after Nuttel's sister left town, there is no reason to think it strange Nuttel's sister didn't warn him about the accident.
