The Passion of New Eve Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

A crazy old lady on a beach (Symbol)

This lady is showed as a symbol of ageing loneliness: smudgy, neglected make-up, with disheveled hair, singing old musical songs by throaty voice and living for alcohol and fas tfood. This symbol shows us how fleeting our life is, and any money or gold can change our past. We can see this woman is alone, but she has make-up, and exquisite clothes she listens to good music. She still tries to fin into this world, but she is lonely despite everything. The years behind her back cannot be returned and changed.

Mother (Symbol)

Mother is a feminist character who forced Evelyn to transform into a woman. Her purpose is explained by the intention to live forever without men. She wants to create a new world because of it the author called the character Mother. Mother is a symbol of revival and creation of a new world, she is a symbol of a new beginning.

Zero (Allegory)

In the novel author shows us him as “a cruel male cult leader”. His description shows us what a person he is, and even his name talk about it. He is awful and because of it the author describes him as a monster “with one eye and one leg”. His name reveals his personality, even though he exists, he breathes and eats, he is nothing, he is what they call good-for-nothing. Zero is an allegory of a horrible creature that brings disasters and confusion.

The transformation of the gender (Motif)

The main motif of the novel is the transformation of Eve. From the beginning Evelyn is an egoistic character, always concerned only about himself. He is transformed by another character called ‘Mother’ into a woman, and not simple one but the perfect one. She tries to show symbolism attaining to equal rights, liberty or feminism. And Eve herself shows us how person suffers from the duality of being a man in a woman’s body. The author wants to show us that perfect women aren’t happy women, because it isn’t the main thing to be happy.
