Ibrahim “Abdu” Ibn Musa
Ibrahim Ibn Musa is usually just called Abdu. He is an illegal Arab immigrant in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is a laborer with an economics degree and is interested in Julie Simmers. He comes from a big family that he thinks of with shame. His life is plagued by immigrant stereotypes, that he is a “drug dealer” and a “slave trader, as he says himself.
Julie Summers
Julie Summers is an English teacher that comes from a rich white family. She doesn’t like being associated with the aristocracy, but reluctantly agrees to visit them every now and then. She is astounded by Ibrahim’s family, while he is astounded by hers. She is also plagued with the stereotypes of rich children, and she battles to keep herself away from it.
Mr. Summers
Mr. Summers is Julie’s father. He is politically active and cares not only about his family but his friends as well. He is rich and wealthy, which is shown in his house, living conditions and standards. He is privileged, just the way Abdu wishes to be.
