The Tao of Pooh Full Plot Summary

By · Edited by Neal Adolph Akatsuka · Last reviewed

The Tao of Pooh introduces readers to Taoism, the religious tradition emphasizing living in harmony with Tao. Tao means "the way" and is illustrated through the main character Pooh. Pooh lives a very simple, carefree life. Pooh is also known as the Uncarved Block, which is the original simplicity of natural power.

Pooh has many friends that come along with him in his journey to introduce Taoism. There's Piglet, who's strong-minded and confident. Owl, who is very knowledgeable and bases everything off his knowledge. Tigger, who has no limitations to his actions. Christopher Robins, who enjoys doing nothing and goes with the flow. And Eyore, who complains a lot.

Throughout, the book describes certain Taoist characteristics like the vinegar taste, the Cottleston Pie Principle, the Stonecutter's story, the Tiddly-Pom Principle, and the great nothing (which are all defined in the Glossary).

The end of the book shows the beauty of nothing and that you should enjoy the process instead of waiting around for something. The book overall shows the beauty of Taoism and how living simple is easier and better.
