The Twits Metaphors and Similes

The Twits' Ugliness

“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.”

Mr and Mrs Twit both are ugliness personified – not only through their physical features but also through their inherent self. They are both a metaphor for ugly thoughts taking over a person and making them appear ugly to society too.

Grandpa Joe

Grandpa Joe is all that is right with the world – he is exactly the opposite of the Twits. He pokes the curiosity of the young children through his tales and stories. This seems to be a metaphor for the wisdom that comes with older age.
