Published in 1998, nearly fifteen years after the author's death, The Wanton Troopers tells the story of a boy. He lives in a small town called Nova Scotia. He is abandoned by his mother when he was a child, though he thought that she loved him. He is truly heartbroken by his mother's actions and wants her only to come back. But she never does, which leaves him broken.
When it was released, The Wanton Troopers received incredibly positive reviews, even though it wasn't very widely read. In their review, famed book blogger Charlene Carr wrote that the book, while it utilizes too many "flowery adjectives," is "Full of richly depicted, believable characters and moments of beauty." She also remarked that the book is very much "worthwhile" and incredibly interesting.
