Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann is a detective story, but the detectives are a flock of sheep. Their shepherd, George Glenn, is found dead in the field. The sheep, who are unusually smart because George read books to them, decide to find out what happened.
Although sheep are usually not considered intelligent, their unique ability to observe helps them notice details that humans typically overlook. Through this, they uncover many secrets about the villagers. The sheep slowly realize that Shepherd George was not a good man. He was on bad terms with several people in the village, especially with his wife, Kate, and the pub owner, Josh, disliked him intensely.
They discover he smuggled goods and, with Ham, hid the body of another murdered man, Wesley McCarthy. As a result, George made many enemies. At the reading of George's will, the sheep learn he left all his money to them for a trip to Europe, as he promised.
In the end, it reveals that George was not murdered but had asked a local woman, Beth, to poison him, and she made it look like a murder according to his request.
