Doris Lessing was a prolific writer of novels. short stories, essays, memoir, poetry, even graphic novels, and opera librettis (work's written to be used in opera). She won the Nobel Prize in literature in 2007. Her most famous works, which (like "Through the Tunnel") deal with the experience of British ex-patriots in the British colonies, are The Grass is Singing, The Golden Notebook, and Alfred & Emily. Her most famous sci-fi novel is Shikasta. Her most famous political novel, which deals with disillusionment in radical activism, is The Good Terrorist.
