Irony of Getting Away From It All
M is concerned about Bond's health and wellness and sends him the Shrublands to get away from it all and take a break from work and his toxic lifestyle. This is ironic because he crosses paths with Count Lippe, working for SPECTRE and connected to a criminal organization in Macao. He almost gets into a fight to the death and rather than the stay being relaxing and a break from work it draws Bond into an international situation that becomes his next mission.
Irony of Bond Rescuing Domino
Bond is very worried about Domino's safety and wants to get onto the Disco so that he can save her from certain death at the hands of Largo. This turns out to be very ironic as it is Domino who saves Bond from certain death at Largo's hands.
Irony of Shrublands Guests Cheating Themselves
As Bond travels to Shrublands his driver tells him that the guests at the health farm become so hungry and desperate for sugar that they go to the tea shop and eat cake at breakneck speed. Bond himself points out the irony in this; unlike him they are not at Shrublands by order of their superior at work but of their own choice, and they are paying a small fortune to do so but are sabotaging themselves with cake and buttered scones.
Irony of Bond's Being Scared of the Octopuses
Bond runs into some genuinely life-threatening creatures under the sea including sharks of various type and a very predatory barracuda that threatened his life. Ironically he deals with these in a matter-of-fact way but is most repelled and frightened by the creepy hoard of octopuses with their red eyes and phosphorescent coloring; they pose no threat to him yet he finds them new threatening than the ocean's genuine predators that he takes almost in stride.
Irony of Blofeld's Appearance
Blofeld's eyes are gentle and doll like with feminine lashes and a reassuring gaze. His physical shape is so obese that it suggests a total inability to move quickly or even move at all and the agents he surrounds himself with are in much better shape, likely capable of overpowering him far more than he ever could them; ironically it is his overweight body that moves fast to kill his perceived adversaries around the table not the other way around.
