Today I Am Carey Irony

Today I Am Carey Irony

Irony of Carey

Although Carey is a robot, he is more human than any character in this text. Carey is incredibly kind and selfless and observes how unkind humans can be towards each other. For example, at the beginning of the text, Carey comments on how Anna doesn't visit Mildred often, and how Paul can be insensitive and argumentative towards his mother.

Protagonist irony

The protagonist of this novel is Carey, and we might be surprised to discover that this character is an android. Ironically, although he is not a human, Carey is the one we root for the most as readers.

Dramatic irony

At the beginning of the text, we get a sense that Carey is sentient and self-aware. This is due to Carey's inner-conflicts and a clear sense of empathy. As readers, we have this suspicion before other characters realize it.
