What is similar about the women who have borne children? What is different?
Nijo, Griselda, Gret, and Joan all bore children. All of them had their children taken away from them. Nijo's children were taken away and raised by her lover's wife; Griselda's husband sent her children away; Gret's children were killed in war; and Joan's child was killed immediately after birth, as was she. Joan and Nijo's children were born out of wedlock, while Griselda's and presumably Gret's were conceived in marriage.
