Transcendent Kingdom Irony

The irony of Pastor Tom

Pastor Tom is an ironic character who wants to score religious goals without criticism. Pastor Tom is a youth, and the younger congregation is excited because they have one of their own who can answer their questions. Ironically, Pastor Tom avoids any questions investigating the validity of some religious teachings. It is ironic that Pastor Tom expects the youth to follow religious teachings without seeking clarity.

The irony of the church

When Gifty undertakes a scientific experiment to learn the impact of drug addiction on her late brother, she is shocked to learn that the church disapproves of science. After being brought up in the church setting, Gifty believes that religion and science should enhance faith. Ironically, the church shuns science without offering a valid reason to dismantle scientific findings. Science is based on evidence, but the church heavily relies on theory.

The irony of Gifty’s mother's expectations

The main reason why Gifty’s mother immigrated to the United States from Ghana was to give her son, Nana, the best education and a better life. On the contrary, when they arrived in America, Nana became a drug addict and joined a bad company. Later, Nana died of a heroin overdose. Consequently, it is ironic that Nana dies in the land where he is supposed to get a better life and education. Nana's mother ends up disappointed because her goals never materialized.
