Gabriel Balboa
Gabriel is a successful journalist for a major Los Angeles newspaper. His wealth has allowed him to purchase a mansion which he is currently renovating. Gabriel hires Rafaela to supervise the renovations and report to him. As the story progresses, Gabriel’s investigation into a Mexican cartel generates unwanted attention to his life. In retaliation, the Mexican cartel kidnaps Rafaela and beats her to a pulp. Gabriel rescues Rafaela and rushes her to the hospital.
Rafaela Cortes
Rafaela was born and raised in Mexico. She moved to the United States after she got married to an American. A few years after their marriage, Rafaela takes her son and walks out of her union. The couple had frequent arguments about running the family business. With her son, Rafaela moves into Gabriel’s mansion and supervises the renovations.
Bobby
Bobby is Rafaela’s husband. Like his wife, Bobby is motivated. Nonetheless, Rafaela is fascinated by politics, particularly labor politics. Their different views on employment ultimately lead to their separation. Bobby is left managing his janitorial business and Rafaela finds employment.
Emi
Emi is a television producer and Gabriel’s lover. Emi ends up getting shot during a confrontation between the LAPD and a local gang. She dies in the hands of her colleague, Buzzworm.
