True Spirit Background

True Spirit Background

True Spirit is an autobiography published by Jessica Watson in 2010.

In October 2009, Australian teenager Jessica Watson set out to circumnavigate the globe - one of the youngest people to ever try (and ultimately, the youngest person to succeed). Watson's journey, which lasted nearly a year, was wrought with hardship and difficulties. Watson's biggest hurdle: eight months prior to her record-setting journey, her 33-foot boat collided with a massive freighter. True Spirit is a recounting of her early life, her sailing career, and her journey across the world. As a child, Watson explains, she was afraid of doing nearly everything. Her sailing helped her do conquer her fears and enabled her to live a freer, happier lifestyle - all while doing something few can ever say that they have done.

Watson's novel, much like her tremendous praise from critics and readers alike. In fact, because of the book's popularity, streaming giant Netflix will release a film adaption of the novel sometime in 2022 or 2023. At the time of writing, the film is currently in post-production at the time of writing. The film is an Australian production and is directed by Sarah Spillane and is set to star Anna Pacquin.
