Introduction to Twilight in Delhi

Twilight in Delhi is a historical novel by Ahmed Ali, set during British colonial rule in the 1910s. The story focuses on the city of Delhi and revolves around the family of Mir Nihal. The novel explores the changing political, social, and cultural scene implemented by the British Raj, through the daily life of the Nihal family. Mir Nihal is a traditional Muslim man, opposed to the colonization of his country, who longs for the glory days of the kings and poets past. His son, Ashgar, is representative of the younger generation, wearing British clothing and marrying outside his caste.
