The Capitol
The Capitol is a powerful symbol of the seat of America's free and fair Republic. The Capitol of the U.S. is where congresspeople do the business of government; the January 6th invasion aimed to stop them from doing the business they were elected to do.
MAGA Hats
MAGA hats are symbolic of Donald Trump, the far-right, and undying loyalty that some in the far-right had to a figure they adore in Trump.
Election Denialism
The most significant theme in Weapons of Mass Delusion is election denialism. Throughout Draper's book, politicians and certain members of the public deny that they lost the election. Most of the election denialism centered around Donald Trump, the former President of the United States who lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden. Like Trump, many politicians and far-right Republicans didn't believe that he lost the election fair and square, which led to the January 6th insurrection.
The dangers of enabling a voter base
A very important allegory in Weapons of Mass Delusion is the dangers of enabling a voter base to act out and act badly, which the book warns against. If politicians and other media figures enables a voter base to act out act badly, Draper shows some of the potential consequences. Those consequences include, most significantly, attempted insurrection.
