When Will There Be Good News? are many stories seemingly unconnected. It begins with the story of Joanna as her family is killed when she is just six years old. She is the only survivor. thirty years later, Joanna is now an adult, married with a baby and works as a doctor. They have a babysitter named Reggie.
Meanwhile, there is a man named Jackson who is a detective, trying to prove that he is the father of a child. On his way home, his train crashes and his identity is mixed with Andrew Decker, Joanna's family murderer who has just gotten out of prison.
Joanna disappears, and Reggie starts looking for her with the help of a detective named Louise. Louise knows Jackson and they start working together once he remembers who he is. Joanna was kidnapped, but managed to escape by killing her kidnappers. They burn down the house to remove the evidence from the happening.
