According to Winnie, hiding from people who aren't chasing you is what everyone does in the 21st century. What does she mean by that? Do other characters seem to agree? Do you agree with her statement?

Winnie captures one of the central assumptions of White Noise, this constant state of fear. While Jack and others describe a fear of death, Winnie fears only pursuit. However, as Jack begins fearing Mr. Gray, Winnie's ideas about pursuit and observation become more reasonable.
