Chifferobe

A piece of furniture for hanging clothes.

Clipping

An article of interest cut out of a newspaper.

Consumpted

A "consumpted" cough is raspy, and most likely the product of tuberculosis (also known as "consumption.")

Counsel

Advice.

Creosote

A dark brown oil distilled from coal tar, used as a wood preservative.

Denuded

Stripped bare.

Disciple

A person who follows a leader.

Evangelist

Someone who preaches their religion widely in hopes of converting others.

Gunny sack

An inexpensive bag, often made of burlap.

Harpy

A nagging woman. The harpy is a monster from Greek and Roman mythology that has the body of a bird of prey and the face of a woman.

Indignation

Anger felt towards something because it is not right.

Murmur

To speak in a low voice.

Palpitating

When used to describe the heart, "palpitating" means to beat strongly or irregularly.

Providence

The protective power of God.

Prudish

Afraid of sexual intimacy.

Rabble rouser

Someone who manipulates crowds of people into indignation.

Redemption

Recovery from sin.

Salvation

Being saved, specifically from sin.

Scowl

A gloomy and threatening look.

Tabernacle

A large building or tent used for evangelistic services. Originally, the shrine-like portable meeting place of God with the Jews during their Exodus.

Tarried

Delayed.

Visionary

A person with extraordinary insight.
