Mungo’s mother
The role of a mother is to take care of her children and give them the best. Mungo's father is dead, and his mother is the only person he looks up to. Similarly, Mungo's siblings want to be emotionally closer to their mother. Satirically, Mungo's mother is an alcoholic, and she evades her responsibility of ensuring that her children feel secure. As a result, the children are left to decide their destinies, but unfortunately, they follow weird paths.
The paradox of love
Love is a wonderful feeling, and everyone wants to show their love without hiding it. For instance, Mungo loves James, and they share a common sexual identity. Paradoxically, Mungo's love for James is illegal and considered immoral before religion and society. Therefore, Mungo and James are forced to hide their sexual relationship and keep it a top-secret in their lives.
The irony of religion
The commonality of religion is that different sects believe in one God, and they read a similar Holy book. Ironically, Protestant churches and the Catholic Church are always in conflict because they do not seem to agree on anything. Mungo is a Protestant, and James is a Catholic, and their difference in religion endangers their sexual relationship.
