    Perceiving Perspective

    Kind of Activity:

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    To examine the effect of perspective in our understanding of characters.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.7

    Structure:

    Although it's in third-person voice, A Lost Lady takes Niel's perspective. As a result, we readers judge the characters based on Niel's standards. If we were to get the perspective of other characters, our understanding of the people and events in Sweet Water would radically change.

    For this assignment, students will individually write about the woodpecker incident in Part One, Chapter two from the perspective of one of these characters:
