Chapter 8 begins with Adela tellnig Ronny she is not going to marry him, but by the end of the chapter they are engaged. Why do you think this happened? How does it inform your understanding of Adela's personality?
Adela is angry at Ronny at the beginning of the chapter and doesn't like the aspects of his personality that have been heightened in India: his condescending attitude, his critical nature, and haughtiness. However, as soon as she tells Ronny she doesn't want to marry him she seems to want to change her mind. She immediately asks Ronny to argue her out of her decision.
