Cycles
Nature is a force that cycles over and over - the reason that Leopold arranged one section of his book into seasons and months, each one with a different description of the flora and wildlife. Every year, Nature redoes itself, but each year, it happens in a slightly different way. This consistency and predictable nature of Nature is what makes it such a lovable force. Still, every once in a while, Nature will throw in another beautiful thing to look at - something that may be harmless or deadly.
Nature is Life
Perhaps, even though many of us live in cities, villages, or "civilized" towns, we are still connected to nature. This is one of the ideas presented by Aldo Leopold in one of his enclosed essays - man will lose his freedom without having wild land somewhere around him. Nature is an important aspect for many people, as it brings happiness, peace, and clarity to many. Yet, as urban populations grow, many are becoming detached from natural environments, which, as Leopold points out, may harm our society in the long run.
Ideas
Like with many works of philosophy, ideas are an important aspect to take into consideration - each new ideas is a new possibility, no matter its level of validity. Many of the ideas presented by Leopold have much good evidence to back them up, and they make sense when you dig deeper into them. One of Leopold's thoughts was that conservation is simply a harmonic state between man and Nature. This does, in fact, make much sense, as when man oversteps his boundaries, the parts of Nature he touches generally falls to chaos.
