Why do the other characters keep kicking Bertozzo and trying to shut him up?

When Bertozzo re-enters halfway through Act Two, he isn't aware of who the other officers think the Maniac is, nor does he understand why the Maniac is then further impersonating Captain Mark Weeny. Bertozzo, knowing the real Captain Weeny, keeps trying to tell the others that the Maniac is pretending to be him.
