What do you think John Grady means when he says, “Horse has nothin to do with it,” referring to Blevins’ horse and how they got into jail in the first place? (180).
John Grady could be referring to the fact that in order to try to save Blevins, they had to take part in stealing back Blevins’ horse. It was about Blevins and not the horse. He could also be referring to the possibility that they were dragged off the ranch by orders of Rocha, having nothing to do with Blevins and everything to do with John Grady’s relationship with Alejandra. Had he not been intimate with her, even if the officers had come looking for the Americans, Rocha might not have given them up....
