An Artist of the Floating World is a novel by British author Kazuo Ishiguro, published in 1986. While Ishiguro is more famous for his books The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go, An Artist of the Floating World is one of his most critically acclaimed works. The novel won a Whitbread Award in 1986, was shortlisted for a Man Booker Prize in the same year, was listed as one of the 100 best novels in the English language by Robert McCrum in the Guardian in 2015, and was a finalist in the ALA Best Books for Young Adults. The novel was highlighted for making Ishiguro "a highly visible young writer" when he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017.
