An Offer from a Gentleman Background

An Offer From a Gentleman is a historical romance novel written by Julia Quinn and is the third in her Bridgerton Series. The series follows the romantic journey of eight siblings and how they handle British society when it comes to marriage and love. It was published by Piatkus Books on 25 August 2006.

The book follows the second eldest of the family, Benedict Bridgeton. Inspired as a Cinderella story, Benedict meets the love of his life in a masked ball, Sophie Beckett, who is illegitimate daughter of an Earl. However, after the ball Sophie is forced to run away. Years later, the two reunite; however, Benedict is still obsessed with finding his dream girl, not realizing that she is standing beside him the whole time. Similarly, Sophie knows that due to her birth sate, she cannot expect to marry someone of Benedict’s stature and must fight the feelings for him before society casts him out.

The series has been adapted into a Netflix series by Shonda Rhimes under the title Bridgerton and was released in December 2020. The third series of the show is set to follow Benedict’s story, and will star Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton. The actress for Sophie Beckett is to be announced. The book was also praised by Romance Reviews Today for having “Two more perfect characters...a quirky, irrepressible heroine...a romance readers will not want to put down.”
