Anecdote of the Jar

Anecdote of the Jar Analysis

The poem commences with the voice “I” which informs the reader that the poem is based on the poet’s distinct interpretations about the jar which are idiosyncratic. The poet may have found the jar to be humorous, but some other third parties including readers, may have concluded that there is nothing beguiling about the jar.

Anecdote of the Jar” makes use realism by using a jar which is a quotidian domestic appliance. The representation of the jar in the poem is unsophisticated. The capacity of the jar to activate the poet’s thoughts specifies that even the conventional, rudimentary objects can be a spring of poetic stimulus.

The quote, “It did not give of bird or bush”, employs intricate syntax. However, it can be construed to mean that the jar, despite being in a desolate setting, retained its uniqueness. As a result, the jar could be toll apart from the hill and the wildness which typically host bushes and birds.

The rhythm in the “Anecdote of a jar” emanates from the repetition of the pronoun ‘it’. If the word jar would have been used in lieu ‘it’, the rhythm would have been compromised, and its musical element would have foreshortened. The repetition of ‘it’ makes the poem to be all about the ‘jar’.
