Ofelia tells Marela that "people like us...We have to remember to keep our feet on the ground and stay living inside our shoes and not have lofty illusions." Why does she say this to Marela?
Ofelia says this to Marela after Marela has been discussing how she loves the stories because she lets herself be taken up in the language and the romance. Ofelia, as she did in the first scene of the first act, is trying to be realistic and prevent Marela from being disappointed. Ofelia seems keenly aware of Marela's propensity for fantasizing about her life, and because of their economic and social status, she wants to protect Marela from disappointment.
