Max Disher (Matthew Fisher)

Max Disher (Matthew Fisher) is a protagonist of the story. He is the first black man in the United States who undergoes an operation that changes his skin color from black to white. However, his illusions about easy and privileged life full of pleasures are going to be destroyed. In a desperate attempt to improve his financial status and get hired, he joins a white supremacist organization.

Bunny Brown

Bunny Brown is Max’s best friend. It is Max who gives Bunny money for an operation and a job.

Helen Givens

Helen Givens is a woman Max loves. The problem is that she is a daughter of Rev. Givens, a head of a white supremacist organization. Not to mention that Helen is even bigger racist than her father.

Dr. Junius Crookman

Dr. Junius Crookman is a scientist who invents “a sure way to turn darkies to white.” The man believes that his method will put an end to racism.

Sybil Smith

Sybil Smith is a reporter.

Sisseretta Blandish

Sisseretta Blandish is a hair-straightener whose business collapses after Dr. Crookman starts turning black people into white people.

Johnson and Foster

Johnson and Foster are investors and Dr. Crookman’s business partners.

Dr. Shakespeare Agamemnon Beard, Dr. Napoleon Wellington Jackson, Rev. Herbert Gronne, Col. Mortimer Roberts, Prof. Charles Spelling are black leaders.

Old man Rev. Givens

Old man Rev. Givens is an ex-member of the Ku Klux Klan and the founder of the Knights of Nordica.

Rufus Kretin

Rufus Kretin is a senator of Georgia.

Arthur Snobbcraft

Arthur Snobbcraft is the President of the Anglo-Saxon Association. He shares the Democratic presidential ticket with Rev. Givens.

Dr. Samuel Buggerie

Dr. Samuel Buggerie is a statistician who is hired to conduct an inquiry into the genealogy of American citizens.
