    Letter to Ultima

    Kind of Activity:

    Creative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will analyze Ultima's character development and desires, and will examine her relationships and conflicts with other characters.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.3, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.3

    Structure:

    Ultima is a largely passive character, but her presence is felt on nearly every page. In this activity, students will uncover character development by writing a letter to Ultima.

    Ask your students to shout out some adjectives that describe Ultima. They may say: strong, quiet, scary, magical, calming, and powerful. Then, ask them how they think Antonio would describe Ultima....
